Well, this topic had me interested.... I thought we might be starting to archive the body numbers of all the members' cars... maybe to find some sister cars or something, one number apart (that would be cool 8) )

So anyway, I went to find SC850's rego papers (it came with 15 years of history when I bought it - receipts, rego, etc..) ..... and guess what..!!!!

OFFICIALLY on my rego papers, this is what it says:

VIN/CHASSIS NUMBER: NOT RECORDED

How cool is that!! We all know what that means now

it's not that special :)

is sa, prior to the eighties(or so), they didn't record the vehicle number..

so if you want to look up your license plate on transport.sa.gov.au you have to put "NOT RECORDED" in the chassis number part...

meeni i'm not trying to disprove your ownership of a 1962 mini.... i'm just asking the question...

This is exactly the same as mine.
The first time it was registered the VIN/Chassis numebr was never recorded.
It's still not recorded, coz its nowhere on any of my rego forms or anything.

But what does this mean?

geez william.... it means that it doesn't matter what shell you have, you can have that engine in it....

well actually, they did record it... but it's not in the whiz bang database... all the early stuff is on microfiche....

yes.. Image

so find a whale... climb inside....and ask some plankton what you're chassis number is...

Here's the details of my car. Both previous owners believe it to be built in 61 (going by engine number, 8AM- early cars) but the body number puts it past meenis 62 (?).

TYPE YMA2S1
BODY 70827/4073
ENGINE 8AM/U/H/180534

That looks completely different to mine. Mine are all the large size numbers, and the car number as I mentioned has 9 digits, not 5. Strange. I'll get a photo up later maybe.
