Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't some of these cars get delivered new with contessa wheels fitted? Surely they would have passed their original inspection prior to being delivered to the customer otherwise the dealer would have been liable?
David just find a different guy as being an aussie is all about being a bit of a larikin

The 998LS Minis that had Contessas factory fitted used the narrow offset Contessas, not the common `Mini offset' ones (which were designed for earlier Minis with flat brake
drums)..

But in Michael's case I wonder what tyres he has, because Yokos would be legal under S flares. Falkens maybe?

Small pieces of suitably shaped stiff cardboard glued to under side of flair to increase its width. As temporary measure you may even get away with bluetack as an adhesive... it only has to last long enough to get off the testers forecourt.

Cheers, Ian

Tyres are Dunlop R but I have checked and these stick out less than falkens.
I think 008's would stick out less as they seem to be a narrower tyre.
And Doc the mini is on club plates and yes only does about 500 miles per year to a few mini club events.

Actually the Mk1 Cooper S got BMC and dealers into some hot water in South Australia (and elswhere) when that state deemed the tyre protuded from the guards illegally. The dealers had to fit flares to new cars before sale to the public, and customers cars where recalled to have them retrofitted with flare kits.

This is the main reason the Mk2 got flares fitted as standard.

Hey Michael, I have to get a check done next week.
Can you post up or PM me who did your check as I'm also looking for one this side of Syd.

Or if anyone can recommend someone near the CBD.
Cheers!

Hey ministeve, I went to a garage at St Ives, and he seems ok with my mini's, but did make a comment about the deluxe maybe not passing next year as it has a bit of rust around the seams. The deluxe has alloy wheels but with drum brakes they only stick out about the same as my S with flares.
The other option is Greig at Mini Classic
The shell servo/ now Kmart, at St Ives is where I have been taking my minis for the past 10 years, just got a different guy this year who appeared to be doing things by the book as I think he had been inspected recently and may have had issues with cars which had been passed?
Good luck

Yeah probably got pinged by RTA/RMS. They used to pick an inspection station (at random?) then pull up every pink slip issued on a Saturday. Then they contact the owners and arrange a time for them to come squiz at your car.
It happened to me with the Fiat 124 Sport once, years ago. They only found a tiny rust spot near a door hinge, but I had to `get it fixed'.

Cheers guys.. I know the one... used to live in St Ives.
Darren at Ashbury Service Center sorted me out.. closer by me/Pyrmont.
My tyres hardly stick out, i'm just paranoid!

I've got the minispares geometry kit waiting to be put on, so that will help.
