Did the bonnet and boot plus parcel shelf and tanks. The Clark rubber spin off of dynamat is just as effective at a quarter of the price. It is 1200 wide and in metre lengths...cost $40 for 2 rolls of it and have a complete roll left over plus some off cuts... :)

Do you have a link to the product on the clarke rubber site, I can't find it? Thanks.

Picked it up at the fishwick store in the ACT just before I moved back to queensland. Will get the receipt and see if I can get a picture of it for you. It has a self adhesive backing and is a metal film covering a lattice of pocket foam...approx 4mm thick. Works an absolute treat and does not come off if you clean the area to be covered thoroughly.

Thanks for that. I'll try to pop into my local C/Rubber and try to locate. TIA

Jim :)

Well I have a slight update. I found some sound deadener at Jaycar. It looks like this

It it butyl backed 5mm foam that is self adhesive and moulds to the shape you want. It is fairly heavy stuff so should do a reasonable job. I bought two rolls for $29 each which isn't enough to cover the firewall below the dash. I will need one more roll.

I took it for a quick drive, even though I need to get more and the sound has certainly been dulled, but I wouldn't say that it is heaps quieter. It certainly is a more comfortable type of noise.

I will add this to the rear parcel shelf and also behind the seat. I also want to add a layer of the hessian style deadener up the foot wells/firewall as currently it stops as soon as the floor starts to slope upwards.

In my quest to further reduce to noise, I am having a second box/silencer added before the RC40 on Tuesday. Hopefully that will also drop the noise a lot.

I'd say the second silencer would help a lot. Mine is a manifow system and it includes a long hotdog in the tunnel.

Also I would say perhaps making it side exit rather than centre would also help as it puts a bend in the system and also the sound (and fumes) would not tend to "follow" the car along.

I've often wondered about adding a flexible joint to the exhaust near the front of the system to reduce noise and vibration.

You can still buy a similar light brown under felt. I don't think it has hessian on one side like BMC used anymore but I could be wrong. I recently got some from one of the carpet places at the back of Wollongong, the one near Wilsons Bikes.

I have a underfelt piece in grey if you don't care about the colour - already cut for front. Was in the front of mine, will go in the bin otherwise.

I'll get a pic when I get a chance.

This stuff is essentially the same as dynamat - I'd be interested to do a comparison of the two. The price is much the same ($200 will get you a bulk kit of dynamat - about $22 each sheet, for slightly smaller sheets).

Hmmmm...... That doesn't make me feel real good now......

I got several roles from school when they were replacing the carpets that had been down since Noah built the arc. They are sitting in the shed making dust.... I'm not sure whether to toss it now or keep it, as only very small amounts had it......

The original firewall mat had a fireproof layer on top which was probably asbestos.

The carpet underlay itself would probably be ok.

Well I went to have the silencer added to the exhaust today, but it wouldn't fit. The existing exhaust system would need to be lowered to fit the silencer in the tunnel. I really don't won't to spend the money on that.

The sound deader has made a real difference to the comfort level of the car and hopefully when I finish it off it will get better.
