Hello All,

Had a moment and thought i'd have another Mini project in my life, its been about 18 yrs since i've owned one and about 12000 miles away from the land of tin worm... I think this is my 6th mini but not the oldest, that title went to a '59 850 that leaked through the floor seam...

Please let me know what you think, know or can deduce about this project car - i'm interested in your thoughts!

Anyhow i saw this on eBay and thought why not...

Ad Reads

"Hi, Up for sale is my morris mini. this would be a great little resto project. i have had the mini for about 10 years and always dreamed for a full restoration but sadly we never got there. the car was a daily driver up to 7 years ago when i started to work away, then it was parked up.

i believe the mini to be 1964 with wind up windows( according to the rego papers) , she has an 1100 cc motor with twin carbs(orginally would have been 850cc), she has twin fuel tanks, wooden dash, jelly bean mag wheels, extractors ,hi-lo adjustable height front suspension, has morris cooper badges front and rear.

The engine starts and runs ok , the brakes need to be looked at ( when recently moving the car it seemed there we no brakes, possibly needs adjusting or to be bled.) , there is some paint fading (discolouration) to the roof and small bit on bonnet, where the car was under a tarp for a little bit then the mini was moved into the shed, the drivers door handle as been broken off ( have seen them on ebay for about 40 bucks). there is a small dent to the passengers side rear by the taillight and there is a little bit of rust in the seams that join the front and rear panels and she needs tyres.

It wouldnt take much too get this old girl up and running again

the car in located in buronga nsw, just over the river from mildura vic

the vehicle was last registered in SA jan 07

if you would like further photos or information please ask.

buyer to pickup or organise own freight for vehicle

vehicle must be paid for before collection

i have the vehicle advertised elsewhere and can remove from ebay at any time."

So the question is what have i bought, answers on the back of a post card please!

Firstly the plate:

Secondly some as-is pictures;

Finally some random thoughts;

It aint blue (platinum) - how many colours are under there? Looks like faded orange over red...
Wind up windows - cant be original doors right?
Has an 1098 fitted with twin HS2's?

Question for the reader;

What shall i do with her?

Cheers

Will

Sit in it, breathe deeply and smell that wonderful old car smell. Try and wipe the grin off your face.....

There's some work in that. Some small dents, a little rust showing at the seems and at the bottom of one door is a bubble.

The trim inside should come up if you replace the covering vinyl, and the front seats (seat) looks good.

You will be doing some brake work! Front and rear slaves and master cylinder overhaul at the least.

I like the twins, and the dash looks good too with the extra gauges beneath.

Looks like a project!

Ack re brakes, i'm thinking a set of 7.5 disks, not sure if 4 pots and vents are worth it, i will keep the 10's

Body isnt an issue, back to original colour or Old english over almond?

I'm amazed at the cost of 1275A+ lumps over here, i remember buying a MG Turbo with box for 150 quid... Is the simplest upgrade to import a Jap MPI front cut?

Yeah, I could have picked up a Metro Turbo once local for 450...but that was 18 years ago...

The numbers are close to mine which would make it originally a Morris 850 from around August 1962.

I think.

Looks good.
If you want to not drive it for at least 5 years, start stripping it down and restoring it . Haha

My advise is get it checked over and get it on the road as quickly as possible. Then enjoy it. :D

Im with these guys, get it on the road and have some fun. Then you can start writing a list of what it needs and what you want to do to it.
Then over the course of a few months start collecting bits and pieces and working out costs for all the work and get it all done in one go.

I go a bit further than that, I say register this one, keep it on the road, then buy another one and restore that one.... one on the road and one (or more) in bits is the best way to do mini ownership :D

The previous owners had some serious style, I'd be kinda tempted keep the orange paint, stripes, dash and flares. It's kinda cool to see how it was changed over the years, at the moment it looks straight out of the 90's, and I kinda dig it

A set of matching rims would look cool. 8)

Me, I would drive it. Worry about the details later.

Might be worth while having a good look at why the RH rear wheel well appears mashed up.
If it's previous accident damage, it may pay to check it's been repaired properly.
