A great big one of these!
But they did give us a capability for a while, and (re)opened the door for the purchase of the LHDs.

That New Caledonia better watch out. We're looking pretty tough over here.

I think those are all steel.

Other types have ally in the SS, but not Tobruk.

Ahhh the old days, when men were made of steel and ships made of wood.....or steel....Actually a lot of very thick steel...

Note the ship's cars early on lashed to the deck at 0:16... :) Tough job keeping them nice and clean and serviceable.
No faster car than a ships car however. Its science.

I hope the source does not mind...

Out an about on the oggin.
One gas turbine (LM 2500) turbo generator of 19,160kW
Two MAN 16V32/40 diesel generators of 7,448 kW each
Two Siemens azimuth POD units of 11.0 MW each fitted with two propellers each of approx 4.5m diameter
Two bow thrusters of 1,500kW each
One Progener-Mitsubishi S16MPTA emergency diesel generator of 1,350kW

Hollow up the middle, and floods down to float off four landing craft from inside the ship. It can do this underway without needing to stop. Great big monstrous things..

The dock is all laid out for her to come in and have a bum scrub before returning to trials.

Look out your window Mick, can you see it? Has it changed local weather condiitions? Will there be an early sunset over Garden Island today? Is Russell Crowe throwing phones at it from the Finger Wharf yet?

Yep, blocks the sun. In fact the gravitational pull is bending the light away from our building.

Looked a bit bizarre coming in with only nav radars turning to people like us. The new crew not on board already had a BBQ to welcome her in, including the pongos. Nice touch we thought.
