I'd clean it all up properly, then crack test it before doing anything..
I spent good money on a 1275LS head once- I fitted new guides, recut seats, did some porting etc, then when I pressure tested it (bolted 2 heads together and attached garden hose) I had a sprinkler in 1 inlet port. That explained why that valve seat was corroded bad when bought.
