My 2-year old Cooper S during a visit to Boho South (near Violet Town, central Vic)
in 1973.
Who'd of thought I'd still have the same car (more or less  ) 40 years later  .

Have you been around that stretch again of road of late?

No, but I'd guess it would be a bit drier than it was on that trip

It was nice of you to stop and see if the tractor needed help to get up the hill :)

At that stage it also had a chrome nudge bar with a pair of aircraft landing lights fitted to it and twin 1.5" SUs. The Rego Number was KWS720 Car No.YG2S42766

Many years later we had an accident, so I decided to de-seam it and fit a Clubman-style fibreglass tilt front and Clubman tail lights. Personalised number plates were fitted SS029.

Then another decade or so later I wanted to go Group N racing, so it was reshelled into a 997 Cooper shell (YKA2S12223), but still with the Cooper S ID plate  It was raced regularly for about 10 years in Vic, NSW & SA.

Another decade further down the track and it's now a road-going Grp Nb car (on Club Permit plates) that's enjoying a very successful hillclimb career.

It's certainly had a chequered life, and to some purists it's probably not a Cooper S anymore, but to me it's still the same one-lady-owner Cooper S I bought back in 1972.

Chassis #2766 means it's probably a November 1970 car. Does that sound right?

I'll add the original car's details to the Cooper S register if that's OK? Can you confirm it was Camino Gold with Crystal White roof and black interior? Also, do you still have the original engine number? It will be a 9/FX/EY prefix and in the range 560nn - 561nn.

Do you know which dealership originally sold the car to the "lady owner"?

Winabbey, re your enquiry ....

I believe that it was first registered in 1971 with a build date of 12/70. The original engine was 9FXEY56128, which I still have in the shed with one or 2 others  and the colour was Camino Gold all over with a black interior.
It was originally purchased at Lanes Motors in Hartwell (Melbourne eastern suburb) by a Mrs Taylor who was the wife of the then Sales Manager.

Hope that fills in a few gaps.

Great story! Sad the original body was lost along the way, but we didn't know how iconic and collectable they would become ! :-)
