Hi guys. Been hearing how to make a 998 a stroker. Ive got told use 850 rods 1100 crank and a 998 or 1100 block? Is there any other mods to do to make this? Has anyone actually done it and does it give a little more power? Soon down the track if its worth it might go ahead hehe.Any help is good cheers :)

To turn a 998 into a stroker (1098) you just need a 1098 crank & pistons.
Rods are the same. So are the blocks, except engine number prefix.
1098 pistons have the pin .148" closer to the top to allow the extra .296" stroke.

The extra 100cc adds about 8 or 9HP and 8 ft/lb of torque.
Before you go mad overboring, changing cam, porting out etc.

Also remember that the 998 heads have smaller valves than the 1098. Probably worth putting a 202 head on too - they're not too expensive to buy.

Only the inlet valves (and their ports) are smaller, exhausts are the same.
I found they still go bloody well with a 998 head on, but yeah if you see a 202 (or a 295) head, grab it.

12G202 head was used on the Morris 1100 sedan, also Mini K and 1098 Clubman, both sedan and van.
It was also used on the 997 Cooper and early 1098 AH Sprite..
They can be ported to flow as well as a 295 (998 Cooper, late 1098 Sprite) can.

Should still be plenty of 202 heads around, BMC made a zillion of them. I know of 2 spare ones near me, gathering dust & spiders...

Old 202 heads start at $50 complete, maybe less, but you would then budget for new guides, valves and springs. If you are going to mod one anyway that's the best way to go.
re the valves, it's easy to drop 998 Cooper inlets in (1.219" dia) but the seats need to be recut and the ports & chambers opened out a bit to suit.
If the exhaust valve seats in the head are worn as usual, you can fit 1.062" (27mm) oversize exhaust valves, or get unleaded inserts fitted.

If doing a big port job you can use stock Morris 1100S (33mm) inlet valves, and 1100S exhausts turned down to 27mm. However you then need to pack the rockers up as these valves are ~2mm longer.
