I'm after some advice about uni's what is the better type rubber or the plastic?
And can they be simply just swapped out the car is a standard 998 deluxe with the rubber ones, but one is worn so was going to put the plastic ones in

The pastic with bearings ones are much better than the rubber ones..... especially if your car has oil leaks.

On my old clubby, I put some new rubber ones in without fixing all my leaks....... they only lasted a couple of months.

Yes this car has some bad oil leaks fixing them while its apart then put the plastic ones in

Just check to see if the bearings in the metal/ plastic ones are moving freely and have enough grease. Its hard to tell from your pic if they are in good condition.

You can replace the U/J once you pull the cups off.
It's a TriumphTR6 U/J, common p/no is GUJ102. Karcraft # RTC3458/1
Current Hardy Spicer number is K5-L4R

I've just swapped over to a set of the needle bearing ones. The part number above (GUJ102) from Karcraft are $17 each for good brand ones (GKN). Mine had slightly different u-bolts for each set though, one were a bit thicker and the other a bit thinner, and fit the plastic cups better.

New inners on the left, old ones in the middle and rubber ones on the right:
