Take an expert with you when you look at it or take it to an expert or spend 10 years researching it yourself to become an expert. There are a few websites and mini clubs. Also the guys here will answer any specific questions because there are hundreds of things you need to look at.

A thousand answers to critical detail points will follow, but if you really are unsure how to tell, contact the NSWMCC and ask for an authorised representative to provide and inspection of the car (for a fee to cover their time and travel). They will provide you with a report of what they find, and you can make an informed decision from there.

There are many more things than just a bolted on feature to tell a car apart, and it can be difficult without some one along with you who does know what to look for.

On that car I would ask for a photo of the ID plate. The numbers on it will tell you if it is a Mini Deluxe or a Cooper S.

I can't see anything on that car that screams Cooper S apart from the heater and the carbies. The motor looks like an 1100S, the dash looks like a K, you can't see the speedo or anything else important.

I hate when they don't list them as a replica in the add.

I phoned a guy from the Victorian Mini Car Club when I found a Cooper S for sale in Vic and he told me he couldn't help me
He said to post an enquiry on the clubs facebook page and wait and see if someone wants to help
To this day still waiting, although car is long gone
Since Cooper S's don't come for sale too often do some research. I ask questions about the car first and usually when I get no response I can assume that they're fake

It's a shame that happened but it's an individual decision for members. There isn't an advertised service as such but more a willingness by some members to help another enthusiast. I'm in Carnegie and would be willing to offer what I know about Cooper S's to someone who has their eyes on a car and is serious about buying it. Of course there's no warranty or guarantee I can give that a car is absolutely 100% genuine, just a sensible and reasonable personal opinion on the features appearing on the car or missing from it that would aid in identifying it as a Cooper S, or not. Getting other opinions would make sense when you are committing lots of dollars.
