Ordered a service kit today.

Wish me luck getting it fixed...

based on recent attempts... it could get alot worse before it gets better -_-

It's just one of the things about working on old cars. Disturb *anything* and it could break.

Flush the radiator => head gasket gets blown.
Flush the brake fluid => seals break down.
Move the clutch slave cylinder => the hose swells and gets blocked.

But if you don't touch it, it lives for another 5 years!

When this new Jet Assembly arrives can I just take the carby off the intake manifold, swap the Jet Assembly over, then bolt it back on?

After that do i just use the following process to tune it up again?

http://sucarb.co.uk/technical-hs-type-c ... ing-single

Seems fairly simple??? which makes me suspicious!

Rebuilding carbs isn't very difficult, and tuning isn't too difficult either given a good suide, and you have the right needle to start.

Make sure you clean out the last of the rubber seal from the bottom of the float bowl, and check the SU needle for any wear while it is out.

All fixed.
I ended up getting a local mini mechanic to sort out the problem... also go him to look at a few other issues id been sitting on.

the old 998 is a rocket ship now!
Drives way better than it used to!

For anyone interested iit was fixed by Neville Purdue here in ballarat. Hes been fixing minis since the 60s and raced them for a long time too.
