Beware, there are polishes and there are waxes, not the same thing. A "polish" is an abrasive product and takes away paint, a wax on the other hand is to seal your paint from the elements.

Polishing your car should only be done as few times as possible (I do mine once a year max or only when needed) and only to correct your paint finish. A simple way to check if what your using is a polish or a wax, scrub the car with an applicator, if you can see the colour of your car on the applicator then it's an abrasive polish and if you don't know what you're doing you can introduce swirls and all sorts of scratches onto your paint. Beware that clear coated cars, there will be no colours.

Every other time you should be using a wax or synthetic wax like product to protect the car like Mothers California Gold etc 10,000 others. You can wax your car every day to your hearts content and it won't damage the paint and should not leave any scratches or marring. In fact it will only make it shinier (to a certain point, about 2-3 coats is the most, after that you are wasting your wax).

Here she is after 5 or so hours of machine polishing and jewelling, prior to waxing:

I've never used the electric buffer too worried of getting a stone or dust in the buffing wheel and scracthing the fook out of the paint..

Nope, not if you are careful and do it indoors but I agree that if you don't know what you are doing, then you can royally f up. But that can be said of anything really. Basically: Do it indoors, small section at a time, slow speed, use a dual action polisher, change the pad often.

You are not using it to "buff" anything, just a foam pad to apply the wax, wait for it to dry then buff off with a microfibre cloth by hand... common misconception

Actually 2 pack paint is very very hard and would take quite a bit of work to scratch it, badly anyway.

Yeah I use a machine for everything, polish, sealant, wax. I don't "buff anything" it's a misnomer. You use a machine polisher to apply the polish and work the paint, or apply sealant and/or wax. Removal is always done using microfibre cloth by hand. So the "buffing" part is by hand.

Machine is necessarily to correct paint using polish as it would take hours and hours by hand, and if it's really bad swirling and scratches almost impossible. Applying sealant and wax by machine is just a time saving thing. You can do it by hand but why not use the machine?

I have 4 cars, so any time saved is a bonus!

Before to after but just looks cleaner..

If I find some energy ill give it a wax today to seal in the sexy goodness. At this stage that's gonna be next weekends job.
