I knew the plate was from an 850, just not sure what the body is as it doesn't match the plate 0_0

Leroy.

Leroy.

Sorry Mate.
Maybe talk to the transport dept and see what they have done in the past. They will either run with your stamped number or give you another number.

I know about the surrogate Vin process, its costly and time consuming. Was stupidly hopefull someone may have been able to tell me the details that should have been on the body plate so I could have one stamped to match the numbers stamped on the body.

Thanks for the help though :)

Leroy

You don't need to talk to anyone, there is nothing legally wrong.
Take the ID plate off. You don't need it for rego. It is not a legal requirement.
Register the car as a Mini Deluxe with the numbers on the firewall because that is what it is.

Sounds as good a plan as any. Just would have been nice to know what colour it should be and the plates look nice in the engine bay :)

I think Mini Automotive at Ipswich had a master list of body numbers and the engines and colours.
I quoted my car body number when ordering some parts and he knew my cars colour and engine number.

I know every state has different rules for vehicle id, but my similar experience here in NSW where I had the wrong plate on my 1978 mini clubman, I was advised to remove the wrong plate and fill out a stat dec to say the original plate had been lost. I did have the advantage that I had an old rego paper to assist with the vehicle id.

If it's of any interest, Morris 850 4477 that the ID plate above came from was for sale on eBay in 2011 with a damaged roof. Must have been used for donor panels. Please don't bin the plate if you take it off though, someone would add it to their collection if you don't want it.
If you have success tracking down the engine and colour details you might be able to get a reproduction plate stamped, they're on eBay occasionally. They aren't perfect but might look better than no plate at all.

It is an ID plate, it is not a Compliance plate.
I will repeat again, You do not need it for rego!
They will look at the chassis number and the engine number. They do not care about the info on an ID plate, it has no legal standing.
