Hi all.

First time posting on the mini site so hello! Hopefully this hasn't already been covered off and I annoy some people. I did do a bit of a search but didn't find anything.
I have just been putting the rear hubs together over weekend and ran into what is a bit of an issue. The hubs all bolt up nicely as everything is brand new. Problem occured when I tightened up the castle nuts on the rear hubs. The nip up nice and then had to go a fraction of a turn more to get the hole for the split pin to line up...

The problem is this. When I put the split pin in, the pin sits probably half off the nut, so it doesn't really do its job in holding the nut from loosening off. Is it alright for me to run a second washer the same as the new ones I just installed? Ie: two washers and then the nut to space it out further so the split pin will hold properly.

Any advice will be much appreciated! :D Will upload a photo as soon as I figure out how to.

Doesn't look to bad in the photo.Just put another washer under if your worried.
I like to have at least 3/4 of the split pin inside the nut.

Yep you could add a washer, don't make it too thick though.

Is that washer on there now the original thick one? I've not seen the problem before..

It is the original thick one...well it's a new one from Minispares, so it is the 5mm thick washer that we needed to use. I just didn't feel comfortable with it as it was. The split pin that the bearing kit supplies almost pushes straight out the other side which I was not a fan of either. The split pin is extremely sloppy as well.

By the way, is that enough bearing grease or should there be a little more? The bearings I packed with plenty of grease before bolting the hub on so there's no concerns there. I just wasn't sure whether to put a little more in the end just to be on the safe side, before the bearing cap goes back on.

There is no real benefit packing the cap unless it's a boat trailer. Just make sure you pushed grease through the bearings and not just smear it over them.

Fill the cap up, and the grease is pumped around the bearing. It overheats and pushes out through the cap. For clay based bearing greases then it will separate the oil from the grease and leave dry clay which doesn't move anymore.

Pack the bearings as you have, and add just a little extra in the cap for good measure.

Luckily bearings are not fussy, as long as its not too little, and not too much.

Thankyou very much for that. My experience up until now has been very much with old Holdens and V8 Chev's, so being new to the mini world, it will no doubt throw up a couple more questions in the future for you all to help with. :)
