Come on children, thats enough now!
There are no silly questions but there are a lot of silly answers.
We all had to learn and the only way to learn properly is to ask questions.
If you don't get an answer that you understand, then you keep asking questions until you do.
A lot of people forget that they had to learn and started off on "L" plates.

Methinx that there is a 'K' missing from the Mk.2 prefix as well.

Don't know that one. YKG2S2 is a Mk1. YG2S4 is Mk2.

AFAIK there is no YKG2S4, as said.
Cooper S Mk2 is YG2S4, Mini K is YG2S1, MiniMatic Mk2 is YA2S5.

Got that.

Curiously, the rego papers I have going back to 1972 has YKG234***** clearly typed.

GRRRRR.

Time to check the vehicle in ?

It's fairly common for alphas and numerics to be mixed up on registration and other documents, like insurance policies, and I've seen the S and 3 in YKG2S2 and YG2S4 swapped on several occasions.

BMC made reference to YKG2S4 in a few publications (e.g. the PUB1056M Mini parts catalogue) even though the cars were stamped YG2S4, as mentioned above.

Is YG2S4 XXXX clearly readable on the top of the radiator shroud?

It always makes me smile when some poor bastard comes on here looking for some honest advice and is met with ridicule. When the advice of "experts" is requested that makes me smile even more. An "ex" relates to something in past association ie a has-been. A spurt is little more than a dribble. You ask for expert and you will find plenty of has-beens that have enough dribble to pass around.

So if you wish to have the advice of a has been who wants to dribble on. Check your radiator shroud carefully, the stamping is often poor and shallow. Fair call is someone is mistaking the appearance of an S for a 3. And as for a Mk2 having the K in the prefix. There are some Mk2's that still carry the K. not all had the K dropped from the stamp, probably why it was printed in some BMC publications.
