I'm sure he will be watching then and glad to see it is being done. Good luck with it all.

In January 2012 I stated my seats and interior were black in my indigo Blue car. I just took the seats and door cards out today and found the black vinyl was stuck on top of blue vinyl in the rear bin pockets and the seats underneath were blue and the visible outside was sprayed black! Now I will need to try and find some of the blue vinyl to re do it as in the pictures of the car on show. Interesting they came with blue or black carpets with the blue interior, might make that bit easier to do. The blue carpet in the pics looks very nice but is probably too hard to get now.

You should still be able to get it. A guy I know that has helped me out with some parts and info, he recently got carpet for his cooper s. It was an ordeal if I remember but he got it.

Gee Scoop, took me a moment to realize that was my interior lol.
Ended up getting the carpet from minisport, yes very expensive but very nice.
I ended up vinyl spraying the interior as I couldn't get a full interior the correct colour. have the recipe if anyone needs it
still need some better front seats though.

Mk1 or Mk2? Black carpet in a blue interior seems odd would be very unusual for a MK1 car. Unless a very late model mk1 where they seem to have started using mk2 loop carpet and phased out the ribbed Westminster.

In MK 1 cars the carpet would normally match the trim.

Flute, a commercial carpet is available that is very close to the original ribbed Australian made Westminster used in mk1 cars. But it's not cheap. The sets from Minisport in Adelaide are made from this.

I have started a new thread on the blue vinyl. I used one of your photos phillb, hope you don't mind.

Mine is a late MKI so need to work out if I should have blue or black carpet.

I've never seen a mk1 car with a coloured interior and black carpet.

I have seen a very late mk1 (car no in the 5000s) with black interior an black mk2 loop pile carpet.

I have seen a couple of late MK1's with what appears to be original loop pile. I have a 5000 series from Feb 1969 and it has loop pile carpet - but it has been repaced at some point in its life. I am sure there is someone out there that will know when Aust cars went to loop pile. My thoughts would be early 1969.

I bought a brand new Indigo Blue S in 1969, shortly before the Mk2 was released, it was registered on the 14/03/69, not sure when it was built but that was when it was registered and I had to wait a few weeks for it to arrive. It had the westminster carpet in the same colour as the seats and trim. Mine was Indigo Blue with White roof with Bone/Doeskin coloured trim, I did order Blue interior but when it turned up it had the fawn interior, I was sick of waiting and it looked ok so I took delivery. As a side note Ron Brownrigg bought the car and fitted a full Black interior with Black carpets.

Mk1 or Mk2?

Mine was very similar to Drewie's, but a 1969 MK II S delivered 2nd October in Indigo Blue & Crystal White with blue upholstery and black carpet.

From an old post of mine

According to Rover Australia , Cooper S cars from start of production in August 1965 thru to November 1965 had a loop pile carpet , sourced from New Zealand . From December 1965 thru to late 1968 , they had a ribbed Westminster style carpet , which was made in Australia . From late 1968 thru to end of production in July 1971 , the cars had a loop pile carpet , again sourced from New Zealand..........Mk1 carpets came in a variety of colours to match the trim and paint . Mk2 carpets were mostly black which had a tendency to fade to a dark green colour over time .................All Cooper S carpets were made to the same pattern

It is interesting as the first of the Mk2's had black loop pile carpet with Mk1 rubber heal mats. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume the last Mk1's had the same Mk2 carpet.

That's fascinating stuff, at least for those of us who get obsessed with originality. :D

What was the source of that information?

Haha, small world. Didnt want to bring up all the memories from it!
Vinyl spraying seems to be the only way you can get anything close to original these days.
