Hi guys,

I'm looking to get my 1966 mini sandblasted (or equivalent), rust repaired, and sprayed. It has a bit of fibreglass in the battery box and floor panels from an old repair and a pretty dodgy home done paint job.

I've had the guys at Mini and Moke world look over the car, and they've told me it's not a lost cause, and definitely worth doing. However, they're quite expensive. I know they do a good job, because they did my moke a few years ago. However this mini needs a lot of work, and i don't have endless dollars to spend.

I'm not looking for a show car... but i do want the work done properly. I don't want it to last a couple of years and just rust again!

Should i spend the big $$ at mini and moke world? Or is there a cheaper (and still good quality) option in Sydney?

Hope to get some advice!

Thanks,
Hugh

Hey MiniDoctor
Sounds like you want the best of both worlds, which we'd all love but really isn't practical. If you want this car to go on for years, be sound and look like a lovely classic, something you're proud to drive then you need to spend the money, preferably with an experienced reputable company who knows minis inside and out... this ultimately will give you the result you want.

The upfront cost that any repair company gives you will be a bit confronting, but break down it - for example if you plan on having this car for the next 10 years then think well I'd only be spending "X" on it a year, which for a classic car that has been expertly restored- in reality it's pretty fair, and seriously a good investment because a 1966 Mini in good condition in 10 years time will be worth some real money... If you can bear to part with it that is :D

Good luck fellow mini lover!

Good advice as I am about to do the same in Melbourne and need to hear this. Thanks for raising this subject minidoctor as I have asked a few too many questions this week!
