A guy I know has an 850 motor with an auto box on it, looks super original, right down to 'army green' paint. Was there 850 autos? I've only seen 998's and 1275's. Is the 'manual'oil filter mounting on an 'auto' motor drilled and covered with plate?

Don't bother replying, I found out they did make them.........why I don't know. Probably for scottish people who can't drive.

850 auto was made in UK, perhaps sold in NZ as well, but not here. We only got the 998.
They should have put the 1098 in them with its 295 head on... like they did for the Morris 1100 auto. 8)

Don't diss the Mini autos, they don't cruise too bad once the rubber band is wound up. Until you find a decent hill...

Mine goes a lot better since it's autoectomy 20 years ago.

I don't get the dissing of the mini-matic on here

especially with the dig of racism too! - probably for scottish people who can't drive. - yeah right, I'd like to see ya say that to a Scotsman's face and keep all your teeth

my matic kept up with a crew of so called tough manual gearbox minis and even left a clubbie in the distance behind me going up Macquarie pass this morning

acknowledge and enjoy a unique and rare Mini car and get over the snobbery eh?

I miss my automatic rover..
I copped a bit for owning it but it still could keep up with the manual boxes even when it had 13" wheels.

Ha ha, so that's why scotsmen have no teeth? I thought it was the whisky that rotted them

I'm allowed to rib scottish people, I'm 99% scottish.

I'm with you Steve, as you know I have a white minimatic almost identical to yours, and yes mine is slow and loud and Smokey compared to my rover 1.3 spi manual, but I love my matic because its different :) and she gets me to work and back everytime

Haha your matic honks along alright Steve, I reckon it helps that the driver likes to mash the gas a little bit too :P

Sadly mine had been converted before I got it but I still love it, even if it isn't original anymore.
