Hi All,

Started attacking the panel work on the back of my clubman on the long weekend.
Removed bog nearly 1cm thick in some spots!

Any how my boot lid seems to have an "overbite" compared the bottom channel section between the rear lights. the problem i've been aiming to fix.

Now i can deduce that from the bog etc it has taken a hit in the back at some point on the drives side rear corner but i have managed to beat the section around the light on this side back into shape.
Now it's just the middle between the lights, above the bumper seem that is sitting in (towards the rear seat) from where the boot lid finishes, making it look like the boot lid sticks out at the bottom.

I know the boot lid is not the original for this shell and i'm wondering if there is a difference in shape of boot lids between round nose shells and clubman shells.
and just maybe this is the source of the misaligned panels!

Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated before i go and start chopping sections out for rear repair panels. This is something i'd rather avoid is possible!

Cheers
Chris

All the same shape. Only variation- badge hole locations.
My 1970 wasaMatic now has a Clubby boot on it.

Check the boot floor for creases. My guess is the boot has crumpled in a bit from a rear ender..

Also check the hinge mount panel, they get pushed in pretty easy.
Few Minis have a good boot to body fit, they ain't a Lexus.
Mine is not a real good fit at all because the car had a rear shunt some time long before I got it. But it doesn't leak with a new seal.

If you think clubmans etc have bad fitting boot lids, check out rover one's. In fact check out how Rover Mini's fit together, absolutely woafull.

Cool thanks for the replies guys. helps a lot!

I have two clubman shells at the moment, the one i'm keeping with the bent rear end and the one i have all but sold which has a perfect fitting hinge panel and boot lid.
So i'll do some more measuring and figure out where it is out of shape and see if i cant fix it.

The boot floor does look a little higher than it should be on the close wheel arch side of the battery box.

Should the bumper seem on the outside of the car where the bumper attaches be fairly level with the ground or angled down a little toward the ground?

Cheers
Chris

Yeah the panels I've looked at online seem to be flat on the inside of the boot up until the seem which then looks like it would angle down a bit.

On the inside of the boot there is also a slight crease down in the floor behind the hinge panel where I think it should be flat.

Here's a pic of the area I removed the bog from!

If there's a crease in there it has been hit up the arse some time.

Yeah at a minimum i'm gona have to get the smaller boot floor repair panel.
The rear seat panel was all out of shape to down near the wheel arch on the drivers side too.
Beat that back into place though.

What's the best way to pick apart the bumper seem?

Drill the spots out with a spotweld drill.

Yep thought as much.
I have feeling when I get it apart the hinge panel will be fine as the crease in the boot floor is holding it in.
