Just noticed some play with my pedals and I think the clevis pins could have some wear in them... I guess it could also be the pedal itself. I can see the pin has some movement in the hole of the M/C lower section though. I cant remember if I fitted new ones back in 2002. So they could be 47 years old for all I know...

I do recall it was a pain installing them.....

Any hints or tips to carry this out? I notice Mini Sport stock a handy looking tool for $40.

Supercrap offset long nose pliers!
Best tool in the world for these clevis pins! (imho)

They're really long, only 14 bucks, and being offset you can see exactly what you are doing in the dark hole that is the pedal box.
They will pull the split pin out with authority, put the clevis pin back in cos you can see exactly where it is going, and put the new split pin in as well. Your hands aren't blocking the way as they would with small pliers so you see everything that is going on up there in the tight little space.

I keep them around only for this job....and sometimes for pulling hooks out of sharks throats when I'm fishing on the deep briney...

I just sit on the ground with my legs under the open door and reach in with my left hand to do it.
Check the pushrod on the cylinder for wear. Heck you might as well fit new rubbers and give the cylinder a light hone seeing it doesn't get used much.

Take the drivers seat out, the overall job will take less time. Oh and yes to the big-ass long nose bent pliers.

I sleep with my long nose pliers from supercrap, best tool for pushing and pulling the clip off and replace it with a good quality CLIP? B or R clip, cant remember, but I flucked my first attempt and it took me less than 5 minutes to change them both over, lucky me...LOL LOL

I use split pins in the clevis pins now. I found an R clip had fallen out, it could have been a disaster as it was from the brake pedal !
They are harder to get in and out but good insurance

Yeah, the clevis pin rotates and the R clip grabs the edge of the hole and falls out.

Technically speaking wouldn't fitting a R clip to brakes need an engineers approval?

I don't know any engineer that would approve it this happened years ago when I first bought the car. I think they were fitted in Brookvale.

I have a easier way, pay Mick to fit it..........when he get's back from deep sea fishing.

Both M/C's had stainless steel sleeves fitted back in mmmmmmmmm 1997 for the first build, but I would have fitted new kits in 2001 Id say.

Dont really want to go pulling the seat out as its mounted to the floor at the rear also and is a pain to do by yourself. (Sparco Sprint on Cobra Frame).

I'm just about to do the same job myself , and bugger me if i didn't find an "R" clip missing out of my brake pedal the other day , the clevis pin was still all the way in though . Haven't been back under there since , ( tomorrows job ) , weird part is the clutch pin is all still intact .

Will be something that i will be keeping a closer eye on for sure .

Looks like I will have a job to do next week then, replace both with split pins, 1\8 should be the ones I hope. You only bend over 1 side dont you,

Back in the 60s I used to arc weld the oval holes in the clevis up and redrill them. (was before the MIG age...)
