got a problem to run past you all and hopefully come up with a solution, its for my Sirion Moke

after having my Walbro GLS393 fuel pump die (apparently from having it too far away from the tank and it running dry)

i bought a Goss GE034 fuel pump, and its getting quite hot and sounding not quite right some of the time, i think its also running dry, even though its directly under the tank,


im trying to eliminate the possibilities, as the car still starts and drives fine,

im thinking the inlet to the Goss cant pull enough from the tank with mokes 5/16 sized main fuel outlet,

or the vacuum petrol regulator from the Sirion engine isnt opening,

im leaning more towards the first one, and if thats the case, what can be done about it ?

Try and and run a temporary "Bigger" fuel line from Pump through tank Filler and see if any changes and go from there. These things need experimenting with. Be careful playing with Fuel and electrical connections.

i dont see how i can run anything bigger from the tank ? unless i put some hose into the filler ?in which case its not gravity fed.. ?

Why not fit pump in tank like new cars, easier than you think.

because i already have the new fuel pump, and the tank already has fuel in it.. so cutting holes is out of the picture...

It is gravity fed, once it starts to syphon it will continue to flow.

you don't have to cut holes, you fit it to sender unit. Besides, you'll never get an injection pump to suck, connected to a 1/4" pipe they'll die faster than you can fit them. The only other ways would be to fit pick up pump to surge tank or fit about 10mm pipe into sender unit as pick up and use original pipe as return. Where does the return go now?

i had a fitting welded into the tank before it was filled with fuel at the top for the return

I suppose one solution could be a surge tank fed by a high volume low pressure pump and then run the high pressure pump from that.

and mount the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay, and put a facet or high flow low pressure fuel pump in the next to the fuel tank
