Hello,

just preparing my car before heading up to the Tville 500 in a couple of weeks. My old steering rack is Shagged and was wondering if anyone knows if a Rack out of a Moke is the same as a Mini (Clubman)?

Cheers Ben

Clubby rack is an AYA6001, it's marked on the gearcase.
If it's an early Moke yes it is the same rack
If it's a big wheel Moke they are the same, but I believe they have a travel limit stop in each end of the rack. Take them out and it's the same as a Mini one.
If it is a really late Moke, ~1980-81, I think they have a UK rack and different steering arms.

If you need a rebuilt AYA6001 rack, contact Matt Read, `TheMiniMan' on this forum.

NLA:
Mini pinion bearings (but John Smidt has Marina ones with machined adaptor to fit)

Yeah, and a long way away. Don't forget to add the freight. Also, they are UK Mk2 racks, should really be used with Mk2 UK steering arms that we never got on our cars.

You can buy NEW racks here pretty cheap, but they come from that well known country in the far east. Don't last long and are unfixable.
No parts available.
That's why people here still fix 40 or 50 year old Oz racks, because they can.
