Is your thread beneficial to ausmini and the ausmini community?

Think about it for a sec.

Posts in a Mini Chat should be about what? Yep, you are all smart enough to work that one out.

General discussion is exactally that, general discussion. These should be posted in the general discussion forum. Simple, right?

Offensive posts are dealt with. This is a public forum. If you were say working as a sales person in a shop, and started talking about offensive material, how long would you keep that job for?

All these questions are easily answered by every single person here. You people can think, so lets do that before posting.

Posts are moderated for a reason, so think about what that reason was before whinging.

I'm just hoping to see the death of SPAM threads. Oh, and "good night I'm off to bed" threads. And "Yay x000 posts" threads.

None of them will die out as long a a certain member *cough-big willy-cough*
is still here. I know I have made a couple of spam posts before (not intentional), but not pointless topics as some people have done.
If people want to tell everyone they are going to bed, use the ausmini chat thing.
Is that still used by the way?

IMO...

I think that yes some of the stuff lately has been uncalled for, but try not to take the life away from the forum, the "good night i'm going to bed" threads and "yay X000 posts" to a certain extent help to give the forum some sense of life and personality, especially for those that know each other, surely they are harmless. If those kind of things bother you, there is always the option not to read it..

That may be so but do we need 5 of the things running simultanesouly as we had today. Im with you in that we need some fun, but one or two is enough.....and put them in general discussion.

I would actually love to have a kill file so that I never have to see the posts of certain individuals again. Total Electron wasters :D

I would actually suggest Instant Messaging (MSN, Yahoo, whatever) for some of the inane banter. I know some of the SEQ crew do this in parallel to reading ausmini and it works quite well.

Also remove the exact post count indicators: n00b, L-plater, xxxcc is sufficient to know how prolific the poster is, and would discourage the spam bursts that seem to occur before certain milestones.

I have seen on other forums a change that worked quite well..

a Post-Per-Day or PPD Counter, which give a simple number like 4.05PPD where post count normally is...It helps stop the spam bursts..but i tend to like the post count better..

IMO....

Ausmini serves two possibly more major purposes.

1. As an information resource and a forum for people to get advice and assistance with thier mini related problems and addictions.

2. It forms a community of like minded (mostly) people who (mostly) enjoy each others company. So they chat and joke and this sort of thing....

The forum if dealt with in a super strict way it would I think die because you might look at it every couple of days and find no additional posts and therefore not post yourself and then the whole thing decays as no one is online.

Just as importantly I think the forum is an information resource of asked questions and of people who can answer your questions. If the content is irelevant most of the time you would loose those members who are serious about minis and these are probably the most valuble members.

I think one aspect sustains the other whilst there is the probibility of new posts then people keep checking and contributing. If the content is too strict this drops off and people might not bother checking.

However people (well I did) join because they want to find out how they can fix thier mini and all these mini related practical things. Ever wonder all the several thousand users who never post are? my guess is that they use the forum as an information resource and if the current content is not kept relevant will probably go just as quickly as they joined.

What I think would be a good compromise is if topics after a largish amount of time are then condensed by someone (I know this would potentially take ages and I am not saying it is workable) this person could select the relevant posts that add to the information content of the forum allowing a person to browse past posts without having to endure reading what the posters had for breakfast that day or thier gripes etc.

This way the community element still exists but the forum becomes even more useful as an information resource.

Yes this is true, but I find that useful information sometimes occurs in the most SPAM like threads and irelevant information can be found in originally useful threads, and I don't want to miss out on some gems :D
OK so it is still my choice to read it but it would be nice if there was a little less Spam

I think that it is great that new members are welcomed so readily and that seemingly silly questions are not jumped on. I think this is an excelent forum keep it up guys but I reckon we should always be trying to improve where possible.

Sorry long post

So do I move this one to the General Discussion folder Scott  ....only joking Boss...only joking.....

speaking as an Ausmini user now....spam just adds to the time I have to search for the good bits....like Arrin said....if all that stuff was confined to a sandpit area....well...the technical, social and help parts of Ausmini would be easier to use and search IMHO....

Spam thread it works a treat on 'my' forum hahaha actually it doesnt, cause theres nothing real there.

I reckon it would be super annoying for someone who had a decent forum, and it was getting spammed unneeded on.
I think everyone was just getting comfortable with NOTHING almost being 'fixed' so we shall all get used to it soon and find was around it  maybe
Good so we all need a good real spam thread and pin it, although, it wont need it,
and let it have Many replys on the one page so slow net users dont have to go a whole new page
hmm?
did i say anything there?

Well, Scott, it depends on where you work.
You couldn't go round talking about Dicks and Pussies to your mates in Fruit and Veg at woolies, but you might be allowed to if you worked at Crazy Horse.
See... its how the earth works these days.
Dicks and Pussies are not to be spoken about in Fruit and Veg.
Especially on the shop floor.
