So I was going through the photos I took of the Bathurst winner replica and wondered if anyone has any info on the original car. I have always wondered what happened to what I think is Australia's most famous Cooper S.
Everyone knows the story, The car was repainted back to its original white for the 1967 Bathurst, then used as a daily driver, then stolen from outside a Sydney nightclub.

Does everyone agree that it would have been stripped and sold off for parts?

Does anyone know what car number it was?

I would think something pre YKG2S2 1500 and probably toga white.
Every time I see an early MK1 S for sale I think- are you the one.

The winner in 1966, Bob Holden, is still blasting around races tracks. I watched him yesterday at Winton driving his twin cam Corolla and doing verY nicely indeed. He sure know where to put a car on a track and keep some quicker blokes at bay. Now where is his mini from 66?

Not sure about the answer to the post but the replica in the photo has the round decals too small.

I have a photo of the original on my wall here at work. You guys may know the one but it is a Phase Three Posters print of the car on race day (I am assuming) sitting next to a red Jag and in front of a green cooper with a yellow roof. I found the print in a little shop I visited in Mackay a while back when I was up there for work.

I don't think the details of it are around anywhere.

But I would assume the cars details I.e. engine no and body number would be available through the freedom of information laws.

Just apply for it through the cars last registration. I think the last rego was mentioned in a mini exp. magazine.

I thought about doing this a few years ago and never bothered.

it used to be around $30 to do it.

The car was painted white and put back on the road, car was stolen and never recovered.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

This one is a little different...Bob Holden (I believe) ran it in driving from Sydney to Canberra...

I spoke to Bob about this once a few years ago. Wasn't there some suspicion about it coming back and racing in red and when it crashed there was white paint underneath and the car was rushed away before anyone got another look at it? Probably just another myth!

Very interesting. Was that info provided by Bob himself?
