Ok doing an oil change and found this stuck to the magnet on drain plug:

Bit worried now as the engine and gearbox has not long had a rebuild and to me looks like something has broke.

Still runs great however.

Bent roller from the gear box? Possibly something left behind during the rebuild

Just rebuilt clutch master cylinder as was backing off on its own, had a couple instance where i had to use a bit of force (not much) to get it into neutral (clutch was starting to engage while clutch pedal was fully in) so perhaps is something from the gearbox.

Better pic:

Relieved it's out! Hopefully it stuck to magnetic plug early and hasn't done any damage!

I had a gearbox here recently with a helicoiled sump plug hole, they had left the tang on but bent it outwards, hoping this would prevent the helicoil screwing out.
It looked just like this one does.

When the sump plug does leak (and it will because i guarantee that the helicoil is not square to the mating face and a copper washer won' be able to seal), get one of the good drmini in aust steel replacement inserts and forever have a leak free sump plug!

As far as being concerned about the internals, it is out now and unlikely to cause any more damage. It is not like it is one part of a disintegrating bearing that will ruin the rest of the engine. I doubt there were many threads that needed a helicoil, sump plug is most common, so unlikely to be more tangs floating around inside.

cheers
michael
