Quite some time ago I heard that air filters such as 'Ramflo's' were not legal for registration. This has always stuck in my head...... :?

So my question is: In NSW, can you register a car with a Ramflo, or similar.....or do you need a standard air filter?

I got my second mini registered with a ramflo

Don't think the guy had a clue about minis though (He didn't know how to open the bonnet)

Passed though so I was stoked!!!

JAM,

I don't know where you heard that they were illegal cause I had my ramflo's on when I was Blue Slipped and they passed no worries. I also had no trouble getting a Pink Slip earlier this year from a completely different inspection station. :D

Only a guess, but it may be to do with your favourite topic of anti pollution gear. I suppose some people would associate that with standard air filters. I have always been able to registe cars (not all Mini) with non standard filters. No one has batted an eyelid so far... :D

I thought it might have been a problem that some filters might contain flames spitting out of the carby better than others. Just guessing but I can't see that it would be illegal to use a ramflow.

It is illegal to have your carb on the inside of the firewall because it could well start fires.

Mine had a Ramflo on the 45 Dellorto 10 years ago for its blue slip, it's still there..
But note this car is pre-emissions. You could have problems with an LS or later. I doubt it though.

We put a MK1 1330S motor into Gareth's `78 Clubbie van a while back, Ramflo, Weber and the rest- all they cared about was that it had disc brakes.

We've got `71 Clubbie seats in the `66-67- what's the problem?

I believe the regulation actually concerns having an enclosed filter rather than the type of filter.
