Hi guys,

Been out of the game for a little while but i have developed an itch again.

Anyhow my Dad bought a Mini a while ago, he re-built the engine and has decided to sell the car.

It was sold to him as a 71 Mini K. However i investigated the radiator cowl and under many layers of paint was a code that doesnt seen to make sense to me.

I seems to read M205 8238.

Does this number mean anything to anyone?

Thanks
Richard

That number appears to be the body number from a 1965 Mini Deluxe.

Is there another number on the firewall near the master cylinders (and below the ID plate or ID plate holes)

Thanks,

The ID plate on it comes up as mini deluxe but we weren't sure if it was maybe swapped.

No, no other numbers on the firewall that i can see but there is a think layer of paint there.

Oh so maybe not as much of a mystery as i thought.

This is the car in question.

The number on the ID plate, is it something between 8700 > 8800?

The lift up door handles look like a 71 car.
The wipers park like a pre 69 car.

Does the car have a clamp plate below the spare wheel on the boot floor? (they deleted them in about 66)
Does it have plates and channels under the floor protecting the hydro pipes?
Does it have a three dial dash? Do the outer screws have captive nuts or self tappers (one will be just below the ID plate on the firewall)

It is a Deluxe, it was built with hydro. It has been converted later.
That is an early boot floor.
Do you have a photo of the firewall?

Yep, it is a Deluxe.
I can even see a mount for the removed hydro pipe next to the clutch pipe.

The 71 Mini K B pillar is very different to a Deluxe so I would be looking at that first to prove what body it is. Its a big job to modify/change it.

M2 05 is the body code for Morris Mini Deluxe and Morris Mini K

The photo you show has a build plate attached to the firewall. What does it say?

M2 05 is the code for the Deluxe and the K. But The K has it stamped in the bonnet gutter and the Deluxe has it stamped in the radiator shroud.
This car has the body number stamped on the shroud. That means Deluxe.

It has the early wiper motor.
Early boot floor.
No captive nuts for the K dash.

The only thing that says Mini K is the doors and pillars. It wouldn't be the first one to get the doors and pillars swapped over.

man+van, Do you have a photo of the front floor?

That second photo will do, it shows the early type of floor, they changed over in 1967.
