Some time ago I worked at a leading Australian fastener manufacturer. We made Fasteners, hot forged, cold forged, fully turned, roll thread and cut thread. By far the strongest was hot forged with roll formed threads. What we competed against was fully turned, cut thread units. We ended up loosing because our price was to high...... ahem. Interestingly the inferior bolts looked better than our light grey finish forged units, the manufacturer OS was organic finishing theirs with an additional black ink pigment. They looked very black and glossy, seems nothing has changed looking at the pics above.

No but we made for AJAX including bigger bolts then they could handle. Pity their plant went OS I really liked their rotating drawing machine and their floor guys were really helpful.
