I know a 970 S left Christchurch NZ in the last 12 months or so and headed to Australia. It's sister 970 S is still here.

I know of another one that came from the African continent.

They were never sold here so are pretty rare in Oz.

Yup, that's my one. I bought and shipped it from Christchurch to Melbourne in July, 2011. Even managed to get it registered with the same Kiwi plates it's had since March, 1965. The sister car back in Enzud has the next number plate as two mates bought the cars on the same day back then. I will try and add a foto of the two when they where together in Enzud.

Well, they were produced purely to win the BTCC back in 1964? which was then a 1.0L class.
There were supposed to be 1000 made, but that number wasn't quite achieved. Partly because they were hard to sell.
As a road car, a 1275 Cooper S blew a 970S into the weeds.

The appeal of a 970S now is its rarity, not its performance.

I couldn't agree more. Being relatively short stroke they rev like hell but are no where near a match for a 1275 as the Doc says.

Fun but :D

There is a sports sedan that started life as a 970 in Hobart.
I think the owner has posted about the car before it came from South Africa in the late 60s and was modified not long after. It was restored a few years ago to its early 70s sport sedan spec.

I believe there is another one in pieces in Melbourne with a well known Mini collector who is an instrument restorer.

They are out there not to many but they are there , are they worth more because of their rarity?
