If some of you are seeking a spam free forum experience, good luck. I would love to see a forum that is 'spam free'.....

If there are any out there, I bet they have absolutley no personality to them.

Not everyone comes here to be enlightend about the technical aspects of a Mini. 'Some' people come here to communicate with like minded people, regardless of what it is about. We all have at least ONE thing in common - we love Mini's! So why can't we come on here and talk to fellow Mini lovers about what we did on the weekend, or what our favourite poison is....or when we are turning in for the night etc.?

Why should these type of members have to use 'Chat' or MSN or ICQ etc.?

You take the good with the bad. If you don't like spam posts - DONT READ THEM! How hard is that?

To be honest, I can't believe we are going on about this s**t again! We all had a hissy fit about this early last year....we all got over it...and 'most' have enjoyed the free flow of the forum. IMHO, that is what has made this place a premier Mini forum - the free flow and mellow mood.

Don't ruin it guys....just chill out!

Maybe its an annual PMS-type event where most ausmini-ans freak out about how ausmini is handled and stuff like this.

Maybe.

There is always an exception to a rule. I frequent a forum which is heavily moderated to the point of people being banned if they break the strict rules imposed. No spam but very lively all the same. This forum and its predecessor (a mailing list) has been in operation for a lot longer than Ausmini (at least 10 years) and is hugely popular. BTW you are not allowed to use anything other than your real name, no user names at all. Here it is .......

It is a model of how forums should work IMO and the only one I know of that does.

It's interesting, but I prefer usernames. It's a lot easier to tell people apart quicker than see another "Aaron" and sit there going, "Crap, which one the 20 Aaron's was that?"

So many valid points from everyone.

Cheers

I joined ausmini (look at date on left) to befriend fellow mini owners and also to tap into the great knowledge base everyone has. As a teacher I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to teach me something new. Having said that a bit of fun is good too as it allows for peoples personalities to shine through. Unfortunately being a teacher I like things methodical, so if I want a bit of fun I like to find it in general discusion, fun and games etc etc Same as I hope to find mini stuff in mini chat, mini mods etc. Mind you I quite enjoy the jokes that also accompany some of the threads in mini chat e.g. big willy (was big willy wasnt it?) losing his exhaust followed by some of the smart comments wich followed, to me that should be a bit of fun. But something like goodnight guys I think belongs in general discussion. I am sure we have all pushed the envelope at times including the great poee (right amount of e's?) I still think this is the best forum I have ever enjoyed and prided myself on belonging to. So now I have had my say I would like to thank everyone on this forum and those who create and moderated for an execellent experience. Well done guys and gals.

Cheers

Well, said....... i must say that since joining Ausmini i have really enjoyed the experience also, the Spamming as Anton said will happen anywhere and everywhere, i personally do not have an issue with what has gone on in the past nor what is happening presently.

Days like Saturday 14th for our get together up here in QLD remind me what a great bunch of characters we have on here residing in QLD, not to mention the friends i've made from many other States of Australia that i wouldn't have normally had the chance to make. I'm proud to belong........ and will kepp on being a passionate supporter of the Site and it's members.

Steve

All this talk of spam made me nostalgic enough to dig this up  http://www.detritus.org/spam/skit.html

I personally think the forum would be a tad dull if all we talked about was mini's, all of the time...

Mini Chat should be for mini talk and General Discussion should be for all the banter! The greatest thing about this forum is that it's members are not conservative and stuffy...

Can I propose perhaps a new 'room' that contains a ruler and other measuring devices so the boys can go in there and keep score of their measurements of how long theirs is.... Their post counts of course

Experienced at what? Spewing crap onto a forum?

I know some of the SEQ crew have small post counts, but have built more minis than you've had hot dinners. I only know this because I've met them in person, not from their post count.

Then there are people on here with large post counts, that know next to nothing about minis. I would not take one piece of advice from them.

I understand what you are saying, but there is the other side of the coin. People like me don't have as much time to waste on ausmini as the spammers.

The hard part is when I login and there a 6 pages of new posts over night. 50% of them are useless crap, although not always obvious from their subject line. I run out of time, and so miss out on the useful posts towards the end of that 6 pages of threads.

So the bottom line is some people like the spam posts. I don't. It reduces the value of ausmini to me. Selfish perhaps, but I was hoping I wasn't the only one.

People are here for different reasons. Some are here purely for what they need to know to keep their car going. Others are here to socialise over the net, and most people are here for both. It's mostly related to the age of the users I think.

I agree with everything being said. There is still need for that banter, a bit of socialising, but think before you post. Theres a bit of fun and banter, but then there's just pure rubbish and offensive crap! I'm sure everyone here, even the ones posting this rubbish, know when the line has been crossed.

Think before you post.

The BS comes and goes....let the guys have their PMS :)

i think the forum runs smoother when people aren't telling each other what they don't like about it.

"I think all right thinking people in this forum are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this forum with being sick and tired. Well, I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am"
