Two different schools of thinking when it comes to running in an engine. Some say thrash it right off the bat and other vary speed, revs, bog it down in 4th up hills etc.
I have done both methods, I must say the engine I thrashed right off the bat seems to be the stronger of the 2 and both the same specs and engine builder. Long term who knows what the outcome will be but if you google it plenty of folk reckon it is the way to go.
Im sure the majority would err on the side of caution and do the proper run in procedure. I also use penrite run in oil for about 200 kms then dump it out. Also like to cut open the oil filter at this stage too and have a good look inside.
In the prototype world engines are taken up to full revs for long periods without
any issues providing the engine is at operating temperature.
Flogging a
cold motor is when any damage will be done.
