Happy to be corrected too but I think these 2 colours were exclusive to the 1275LS. They were the only colours that model came in I believe.

Yes the 998 LS came in Silver and Gold . Original 2 colours for the 998 LS where Iridium(Metallic Green) and Blue(Metallic) , but later came in the Gold and Silver as well ,I think around the time when the 1275 LS was released or may have been just before ,but there wouldn't have been too many of them made in the Silver or Gold . The 1275 LS however only came in Silver or Gold

In case it helps in this discussion, below is the sales brochure for the Mini 998 LS. I understand from a reliable source in Leyland at the time that a 1275 LS brochure was never produced.

Also below is the Mini Clubman accessory brochure that, according to the heading on page 2, is a list of items that are standard equipment for a Mini LS.

Ok so did the LS and 1275 LS both end production in the October or did they discontinue the 998 before? I definitely have an LS then as it is Hiho silver on the plate. However it looks like it might only be a 998, not the 1275 I thought it was...

The 998 LS was discontinued when the 1275 LS began production in August 1978 , probably July or early August 1978. Also the 998 LS in Silver or Gold came with a black roof. Apparently only a small number of 998 LS in Gold or Silver were sold in 1978, so if you have one it would be quite rare

Interesting...my minis colour was hi Ho silver, it has the prefix of a 998 and it was made in October.

XNFAD18Y = 1275LS
XNFAB18Y = 998 LS (this is after the code system was changed in March 78)

It was probably made before October , the date on the Compliance Plate is the delivery date to the selling dealer , some Cooper 'S' have been noted with a date of 1972 or 1973 , long after production ceased

XNHAB18Y isn't an LS, it is a Mini S.
