Post all the photos you can ,the more the better .

Re; the seats , i think you'll have plenty of time to source some seats , considering the state of the roof, that is a major job if you don't have the skills to do it yourself , and expensive if you have to outsource the job .

How bad is the rust in the rest of the shell ? , could determine whether it is worthwhile , especially if you are on a budget .

I agree with Goodie

There does seem to be a huge amount of work in that vehicle.

I reckon you may be better off buying another Leyland mini shell that is in good nick and using the one you have for parts.

By the time you source a new roof, floor pans, sills, boot floor etc etc etc Plus all the hours and hours of work it will need, I think you would better sourcing a new shell

There are still Leyland shells around in good nick and they don't cost a bomb (atleast where I live)

The rust is pretty bad in the panels, but structually it looks pretty sound.

I don't mind that it's going to be a lot of work, it's not like I'm going anywhere in a hurry. My plan is to learn how to weld anyway, and I'll get plenty of practice before I take on this little monster. I wont do the painting myself though, I've got a friend who's offered to do it, so long as I help him get it prepped. He doesn't mind teaching me either.

My expenses list so far runs around $400 for replacement panels, which isn't too bad. I'm going to allocate about $10,000 tops for it all, and if I can do it for that or less, I'll be very happy. Still, I don't have that sort of money, so it'll be a "bits n pieces" sort of thing.

Jenna

PS. As the seats are incorrect for my car, how do I go about finding out what the correct ones are? Also, would the seats I took out be worth anything? They need a clean and they have some rips, but are otherwise sound.

:)

Slight problem with that idea mate.

The first being that it's $14,000

The second, it's already restored.

Third is, see first.......... lol

Not bad, but I think i'll pass.

Hopefully mine will look like that one day.

I've already put a lot of hours into mine, and if it takes me ten years to finish it, so be it. I'm very attached to this girl, and am prepared to get her done.

Thanks anyway.

Its not restored, its a extreamly original car, with low ks. The amount of money you will spend restoring yours in my opinion you are better off buying a better example.

Anyway, check out the photos, thats what an original LS looks like. If you need the Blue pokadot material for the seats, a mate of mine has had it remade.

I've had a look through the photo's, and am aware that work still needs doing.
It's a lovely looking car, and one I'd love to own.
However, I do not have the option of buying another car, even one that does require some work to finish off.
I'm more than happy to plod along with my car to get her done. I'm not in a hurry, and I like to finish what I started.
Seeing the photo's has given me ideas of what I'd like to do to my car, as well as how it will look when done (or almost done). I'm buying everything bit by bit as I can afford it, and I'm reconditioning many of the parts that came with (and off) the car.
It's going to take a long time, and probably a considerable amount of money, and if the car was not still structually sound, I'd scrap it for bits and find another one to work on. As this isn't the case with my car, I'll do her up.
If I was after a quick fix, and had the money, I'd seriously look at that car, but that isn't the case.

I've given up my farming, my sheep, my sheepdogs, and lots of other things, and this is one of those things I'm not giving up on.

Plus, she's got one hell of a personality!! :)

If you were closer I could fix you up with a basically rust free bare shell for cheap (as I will just end up introducing it to a 9 inch grinder due to having no use for it).

But you seem pretty keen on fixing the one you have, so best of luck, and I watch with interest (don't forget to start a restoration thread)

Thanks Bubbacluby,

I'll definitely do a restoration thread.

So, is it still okay to ask questions in here? or is there a better section?

Jenna

PS. Do you have any 'postable parts' that would suit my mini? happy to pay postage

Here is fine or you can start a new topic everytime there is a new question.

Most parts you will need are common to all square nosed mini's, and lots of people here have spares. So say what you need (in the wanted section) and someone will come to the rescue.

You may have trouble when it comes to "specific" LS parts (such as radio console and others listed in brochure) and may require some searching a long period of time.

Only specific LS parts I have from when I stripped the one I had is grill and tinted windows. All others are just generic Leyland mini, and are fairly common and not real hard to source.

Thanks mate.

I'm searching now for a brochure (no such luck yet). The grill I have is in really good condition, and requires nothing more than a bit of a tidy up, also the windows are good, although to pass a roadworthy, I'll need a new windscreen.

Another member on here has reached out, and we're sorting out parts and prices and things. I'm strapped for cash right now, but if I can get this stuff at a good price (or he's willing to hang onto some bits for me) I get the feeling he's going to make my restoration a lot easier.

I went to have a look at the car today and upset a couple of tiger snakes, so I'm going to have to wait for a couple of cooler days to be able to get down there and go over it properly. Also, I have about 8 boxes of parts to get through as well.

Now, to find that brochure! Any suggestions as to where I can look? Or should I just try and buy one of BMC?

Jenna

Jenna, just start your restoration thread and ask all your questions there...that way, its all in one spot. If you can put up pictures that can help with some questions (sometimes!).

Enjoy :D
