Hi Doug,
You learn something new everyday. I didn't know about the different heat shield arrangement. Interesting!
I have a couple of original S manifolds in various states of disrepair, all requiring new lower pipe sections. One has been cut off, one is rusted through and another has been realigned by an "expert" who seemed to think that kink bending was OK. Hmm.
On my first S, 1966, the manifold burnt through on No1 cylinder at the bend at the head. I ditched it and put on some Sonic extractors.
Lesson from this: Never throw anything out.

Regards
Ron

These original fitment Cooper or S things get awfully thin at the bends near the head, and rust through. Then they are too thin to repair.
I'd be checking thickness there first, before wasting money...

[edit] for clarity

I had the NEW big bore LCB ceramic coated inside and out for the 1380 build...but not all shops here will prep and coat the inside of new or old. After 6 years on the 1380, the ceramic coating was going away with a few tiny rust spots showing. After cleanup, I painted the exterior of the header and the exterior of the intake with hi-heat paint. Looked almost the same as the ceramic coating and two years later still looked good.

Awaiting delivery of a NEW Maniflow Freeflow exhaust header and twin box system to go on the 1293 build for the Aussie Van. I will thoroughly clean the Maniflow steel and paint with 'cast iron' grey hi-heat paint (1,200 - 2,000 F). Also Titan Motorsport intake to match.

I removed the rust from a Cooper 3 into 1 header in a 3-1 water/molasses bath. Softness of the steel and numerous pin holes showed them selves.

(I soaked the 12g940 head in the 3/1 bath with excellent results...improving on what the machine shop did in two attempts with hot chemicals...and at much lower cost. The head will get new hardened exhaust seats, guides, valves, springs, stem seals also for the 1293 build.)

Hi Kevin,
I was hoping to salvage at least one by having some new lower pipe sections bent up and welded on at the joint between the pressed top half and the tube bottom half. It seems I may be disappointed when I get to check the top bends.

Regards
Ron
