Note to self - must check the switch in my unmolested ex-Police 1970 S to see if they perhaps wired up the pursuit cars to flash for Police service.

Is it possible that they simply added an extra push button with the siren and blue light wiring?
All you need is a power wire feeding into the high beam circuit with a push button switch. It doesn't need to be on the blinker switch.

Bah! I always forget metric came in quite a while after decimal currency

Love the all minis you can see in the traffic in many shots :D

cheers,

How does the driver of that Mini (at the start) flash his headlights? Was the stalk mounted flash facility ever factory fitted on round nose Minis? Certainly at the start of MK II Mini production in 1969 the flash feature on the turn indicator stalk was disabled. The appropriate wires from the indicator stalk were cut.

As far as I'm aware they never fitted headlight flashers to any Australian Mini, the 69 ones had the high/low dip switch disabled and used the floor dip switch but the blinker switch never had a pull to flash feature. (I added a headlight flash switch to my 1275LS._

The Morris 1100 came with a headlight flash feature on the third type of blinker switch, so probably around 1966 or 67 without looking at a book.

Seeing how the film was shot at St Ives could the Police have been testing them for future use?

My 78 leyland has high beam on the stalk, with flash. Don't know if it was fitted when the H4's were put in though.

I like how after 3 flashes he sticks his arm out the window and shakes his fist. Must be a pretty good driver if his left hand is on the light switch and his right arm is out the window.

They probably burnt out the original switch from running H4s through it.
My 78 1275 LS needed a new switch in about 1987, don't be surprised if your one has been changed already.

There's another smacked up Cooper S (by the wheels?) at the start of this one. Must have been a few careening off the road at this time.

So cool,

Mostly filmed around my local area and where I did most of my early driving.....ah memories....less traffic, less cops, NO cameras, back when driving was fun.....even obeying most of the rules..

Re flashing hi beams, the Mini K's I've had (69,70 and 71) had the flasher on the indicator stalk but oddly enough the K stalk I have on my current car has the wires cut. I haven't got around to reconnecting them but have wondered why on earth someone would cut them....

We have had our 1970 Mini K from new and the wires on the indicator stalk are cut on it, ie no flashers,
must have been a legal issue I would say back then. It is the original stalk I have never change it.

Just waiting for Winabbey to find the service bulletin telling them to cut the wires.

It was not a legal issue as other brands were sold with the dip switch on the stalk.
I think it was one of those pig headed BMC/Leyland engineering decisions where Holden has the dip switch on the floor so we must have the dip switch on the floor.

I remember reading it somewhere but can't locate it at the moment. It doesn't appear to be in a service bulletin so may have been in a Dealer service letter. I'll keep looking.
