The first fluid was red and from memory this caused squeaking with early cars, so they had the change the recipe. I think I have a bulletin somewhere explaining it

I'd suspect the `lubricity additive' to probably be glycol?

So what is "Union Carbide HP5100" ???

The UK stuff is basically water and alcohol (metho/vodka??) with some anticorrosive (triethan c ..) and micro biocide (sodium m..) added. Maybe substitute the last two with some soluble oil and water bed conditioner??? Going by the chemical warning sheets I'd be very careful if I had a UK car with original fluid..

Ehtylene g is some 16 times as viscous as water so Doc may be correct ....but I think the HP5100 may be the key...

The car I ran in the US used a 30(odd)% antifreeze and water mixture (home made) and seemed fine (didn't notice any squeaking..) We used a similar device to goodie's except for an inline pressure gauge...

Cheers, Ian

Anglomoil at Mt Colah sell hydrolastic "suspension fluid" which I have used for many years. The father of one of their owners made the fluid at HC Sleigh for BMC/Leyland.
I believe Mini King sourced fluid from them too.
Bill.
