So I've been thinking of late of supercharging the 1310... My question is, what's people's opinions on doing so? How much work is there to get it all going? Recently there's been a couple of SC12 kits. It'd be good to speak to someone who's running a turbo or supercharger.

I've a metro turbo block, if that makes any difference.

Cheers
James

Turbo or supercharger you will need to upgrade the diff pin to either a cross pin or LSD as the standard pin is notorious for breaking once you add a lot of extra horsepower to your motor!

As one of those with a SC12 kit for sale (I won't add the link again but mine is the one with the spare SC12) I gave up on the idea as I'd only just had a newly built 1340 installed in my car, I really didn't want to go to the effort of removing the engine again to upgrade the diff! (Poor planning on the initial build!).

But, hey if you want more power, more fun and you have the coin and know how I'd say go for it.

As for turbo or SC it's gonna be a six for one and half a dozen of the other argument....

Yeah thanks Marty, yours is the one I was looking at. It looks like heaps of fun. I'm just waiting to hear back from my engine builder which diff I got put in my car when it was built

Cheers
James

I wouldn't be too concerned with what diff you have, unless the answer is a really worn out old one.

More importantly would be the compression ratio of the motor, and how much boost is going in etc

With your current engine you may be able to just bolt it all on and drive away, or you may need to modify a few things to make it work properly. It all depends on what you currently have and what more you want to be doing with it.

cool thanks, its a brand new diff so should be okay. Engine builder said it will be strong enough.

If i remember, turbo requires lower compression right?

I'd like to run 8-9 psi of boost if possible. Current set up is metro turbo block 1310 a+, port polished head, radtec super 2 core rad and rebuilt gbox 3.44 diff

Cheers
James

go have a read of turbo minis http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php

supercharger have less piping, turbo more piping because of Intercooler. its depending on what sort of power you want. SC you can run a std exhaust manifold so not much more work, turbo you will have to make a turbo manifold and turbo dump pipe or buy one. you will have to drop the comp ratio depending on what sort of power your looking for. i would be looking at running megajolt to.

Thanks Norm74

I am definitely more interested in a SC than a turbo. I prefer the simplicity.

I'm not looking for MOUNTAINS more power. I just want a few PSI for taking off at lights and all that. Bit more fun. I want to modify as LITTTLE as possible!

Cheers
James

if you want to modify as little as possible go the SC route. its easier and quicker to do, so set your PSI all you have to do is change pulley sizes. find out what your comp is and go from there. supercharger you want to run is up to you.

Cheers mate. Also, how is availability for a crank pulley to run the belt from crank > SC then to the alternator and fan etc?
