Thanks for fighting the good fight GR...

Question: so should everyone start save followers to build up a stock of original old stock?

I was wondering the same thing. Would we be better off refacing old followers rather than buy new ones?

Provided they are not chipped, yes!!

Hi Alex
I was talking to Clive today (Clive Cams) and he does not heat treat his cams and nor did Wade cams the just put a phosphate coating on them, this is not a hardening process just a coating to help the cam and followers to survive till the oil gets to them, for special cams he does have them nitride most of the good heat treatment places when hardening a long object like a cam, shaft, crank, or long bolts always drop them in vertically to try to stop bending as with nitriding all items are suspended vertically to stop bending, but this still does not stop mini cams from bending.

The grey motor cam you have would be a cast cam which would have been through the Parkerising process and running steel cam followers, now go back and read what I said he said some special cams he gets nitrided or in your case tuffrided same process, now if you open your eyes and go back and look what I wrote in another post I said that David Anton did have his own cam followers made and quote, "his followers are more expensive but you only get what you pay fore"

Every one agrees that the message is clearly that you need to take care with cams and followers. No more need for pissing contests.

cheers
