Ive just noticed my new M/C's reservoirs are leaking around the bottom where it meets the cylinder. The seal was brand new. Could this be that Ive either done the two bolts up too tight? How tight should they be done up??

This weekend's mission is to remove the brake and clutch Master Cylinders again and investigate why both brand new reservoirs are leaking....

HOW FRUSTRATING......

hee hee,,, stops anyone attempting to sell them as NOS

We fit brake cyls with .7" bore ,,, & clutch with .75" bore
but don`t forget when re-assembling the 2 cyls
that the brake cyl (.7) has the "Slow return" valve in the top
& the clutch (.75) does NOT

don`t mix them up :-)

What Ive found so far, is that it seems like the upper locating lug at the top of the M/C reservoir, was not allowing the bottom part of the M/C reservoir to seat square with the mounting area on the cylinder itself. This could be a combination of a build up of powdercoat on the inner part of the M/C, perhaps slightly larger lug on the reservoir? And the cylinder it self was faced off to ensure the sealing surface was free of pitting etc.

Ive carefully ground down the lug with the dremel to allow it to go further towards the cylinder which in turn allows the bottom of the reservoir to sit flush with the cylinder. Got some new seals on the way just for the sake of it.
