Just about to switch off the telly when I realised The Italian Job(the proper one)is just starting. Looks like I may be up for a few more hours. I have to watch it, its only on tv maybe once or twice a month!

"The proper one"
I know of two endings that I have seen:-
One where Michael Caine returns to the UK and Bridger meets him on the beach and tells him to take the money back !
One where the bus is teetering on the cliff with the gold at one end and the robbers at the other.

Which is the "proper" one and is there any others ?

Well I never knew there were 2 endings, only ever seen the bus hanging over the edge ending although I did fall asleep on the couch before it ended so it possibly had the beach ending.
When I wrote proper one I meant the original rather than the recent hollywood remake featuring BMW MINIs

Where did you see the beach ending? Wasn't that the ending to the book version but not something actually filmed?
You aren't mixing it up with the 2012 movie 'Players"?

I'm sure I remember the beach ending as Bridger was standing with a host of prison guards around him and he explained that the Italian economy would suffer and it would reflect badly on the Mafia as they would be blamed. Criminal brotherhood I suppose !

I have a sneaking feeling that they originally filmed two endings and went with the teetering bus.
The other or 'new' ending has come to light fairly recently. I sort of remembering reading about it
a fair while ago.
