That's fine, I will simply stop chasing up leads on products that could potentially save hundreds off retail. I always hated how Australians keep getting ripped off on price but then I chuckle and remember that we deserve to pay that price because no one is willing to do the leg work on cheaper alternatives.

For this exact reason, one mans opinion.

I think you are confusing "expression of interest" (i.e. i have a second hand car/part/haircut that my long lost aunty left to me and i want to know what i can get for it when i flog it because i have no other interest in it) with:
1. "anyone want to go in with a group buy"
2. "here is a new product that you all may be interested in that is available for $x"
3. "I am thinking about having a reproduction part made, but to make the price reasonable i need to know the interest in such a reproduction".

Group buys per 1. above, where discussion is of the product, supplier and price, are fine in Mini chat, so long as it is a genuine discussion. This is enthusiasts helping each other out, which is what the forum is all about.

Our for sale section has very clear rules that a price should be in the ad. The for sale section is free for your use, so long as you stick to the rules. Placing ads that are an expression of interest in the for sale section without a price unfairly pushes those ads by people sticking to the rules backwards. We try to keep it fair because it is free. Let me repeat that it is free, and we try to keep it fair.

A product researched by you offered with a price per 2. above, is fine in the for sale section.

Discussing having a reproduction run of a part made as in 3. above would be fine in Mini Chat, but only if there were genuine discussion being requested. Simply putting something in there with a message to PM about a product is too much like an ad.

Mick has put the EOI section up to cover the other situations that don't fit the spirit of the forums.

I think everyone appreciates a genuine discussion of alternative suppliers, products and prices, so please keep up the contributions.

cheers
michael

Here it is - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=88633

I found it by clicking on the Mini Chat link at the top left and then scrolling through the posts (from latest to earliest). :)

Personally, I'm not sure we need another category for what you are offering (which is a great offer by the way). I reckon Mini Chat is OK given the rare occurrences of this type of query. But happy if others have a different opinion.

EOI category could do it I suppose...it has a sunset clause for an opportunity like yours as you need to know before a set date, but is more geared up for selling cars without a price being fixed....

Could also put it into Planned Events. There are not as many posts there and it will stay on the front page for longer. Others have put ideas in there for events without a date until they get numbers (see original Rylestone Classic discussion).

cheers
Michael
