These pods are really nice for the price, if they ever had them in stock!

I made mine up when i restored my car in the 80s. bought a spun alloy pod at a swapmeet and made the ashtray bracket.
I occasionally still see pods at Bendigo swap with the guys who metal spin moon discs and rod lamps...

Got to be Smiths. 0-8000 rpm bought online from UK, delivered to the door in Bali for around 1/2 the price in Australia. I buy in Australia normally but the price differential made it a no brainer....

There are lots of (more modern) options beyond Smiths. Stack are great ..if you don't choke on the price.

Try Merlin Motorsport on the web

I wouldn't be surprised at a price differential. Ex Oz you are paying UK price + freight + import duty on price+ freight + GST on price + freight + import duty + Oz tax (retail mark up) + freight to Bali + whatever the Indonesian Gov adds.....

Cheers, Ian

I don't like Smiths ones, IMO they are poorly damped. How about a VDO or something instead?
In my case, I grabbed an 8000rpm Veglia Borletti out of my parts donor Fiat 124AC Sport. Then when doing track days and found 8000 wasn't enough, I upgraded to a 9000rpm one from a 124BC Sport. :)

No doubt there will be users out there that will brand my post as self interested but the reality is that i am an enthusiast first and foremost.
For your info Doc, Smiths were poorly dampened in the 60's.... The tacho's made under the smiths label now have a stepping motor and are perfectly stable.
Stack is fine aesthetically but they are made in china as a sub brand of autometer....
RNy997... The ashtray option does not meet ADR 1803 no matter what your local roadworthy expert says.it is a projectile in the case of an accident.
Mick. Correct spun aluminium pods are made in sydney and ins stock.
show me a link to a current price and i will meet it on Smiths.Any other tacho be it speedwell smiths, crypton, les leston, chrono, vdo, etc etc i can show you and if your pockets for the rarer onesallow can supply

OK - I'll bite :!:

Smiths Tacho's in the 60's were lightly damped in order to provide a quick response to a change in input...a compromise...but, any Tacho that tells you you have exceeded peak revs AFTER you have blown an engine is not much use.

That's what I do.
Being broken, I lay around all day reading.
I actually get a lot of enjoyment reading the discussions (bitch fights) between people that have a difference of opinions.
