So these low back seat that I bought will need to be re-covered etc. I want to try and make it as quick an easy for the upholster so was thinking of trying to think ahead of what parts may be needed....

Seat Foam Base: Not sure which one out these two???

http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search

Seat Foam Back: Does this usually need replacing?????

http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search

Rubber squab base:

http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/CZH3508.aspx

Not sure what this actually is??

Any other things that may need replacing??? Should I bother ordering in foam from the UK or just get the upholster to make some up????

The bottom of these seats that I bought dont seem to look right to me????

Why do they have wire springs on the base? No rubber squab base? Is this normal??? Its been a while since Ive seen low back mini seats....

So there is no need for this item:

Steve Justminis told me these are later seats like Mini K etc. So that saves me needing to buy that rubber squab mat for the base.

Cool.

I think the seat springs changed depending on availability from the suppliers.

I prefer the wire springs, at least they won't break.

I am doing this myself using the Newton guide and bits. They say you also need these. http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/cars/classic-mini/model-19/seats/210-mini-horse-hair-squab-foam-padding/

When I pulled mine apart this wasn't there only foam over stretchable narrow webbing. There was some felt like wadding over the outer edge of the seat. Mine are from a 67 deluxe.

I have a feeling that the seat quality changed in 1968. They seemed to try and cut costs right through the model range at that time.

Yes it is... as per the diagram above ...

But the $64 question is ...why did they do it???

Cheers, Ian

Was it to do with the starter button?

I have always been curious about that.

I think it is to give hand clearance for the seat adjuster.

I actually thought it was a place the passenger could hang on with. If you are sitting in the passenger seat it's about the right place and shape to grab hold of with your left hand. Try it.

....and theres not much else to hang on to in a mini.
