Hi, I'm wanting to fit an electric fuel pump to my 998cc A series engine. Its standard but i have fitted an electronic ignition system, extractors, alloy manifold with a SU HS4. What pump do you suggest and will it need a fuel regulator? Thanks

The square shaped facets are used by quite a few people, readily available at pepe's; bursons, repco etc and cost around $100. I used to run one on a modded 1293 with a 40mm then 45mm weber.
Mount it on rubber exhaust mount type bobbins. Most people mount them on the rear subframe.
You shouldn't need a regulator, but holley and malpassi do suitable ones. Webers and SU's don't need or like much pressure (probably 2-4psi).

Square Facet ones work fine on an SU, Weber or Dellorto for road use without a regulator. Mine is a 40104N.
IMO you only need a regulator if running a bigass pump, eg a Holley or something, on a race motor.
A decent regulator would have a pressure gauge- IMO cheapo regs are not worth having.

I have an SU-style fuel pump (not a genuine SU) for my 998, and it works great. The previous owner put it in. It's mounted in the engine bay near the radiator, I imagine it was just put where the existing hose to the mechanical fuel pump would fit. No regulator either.

The square Facet style ones come in a couple of different pressure ranges. Get the low one and you won't need the regulator.

re the mounting, I used a centre exhaust mount (the big rubber block). Pump holes are same spacing as it has. Just 1 hole to drill in the subframe web.
Note wiring shown was unfinished.

When the pump is fitted at the rear, it's a "pusher" rather than a pump. Eg. Morris 1100 was fitted up front at the fire wall, that's a pump. Cooper 'S' at the rear. You can convert by changing valves.

Facet square pumps are all `pusher' type. No user serviceable parts inside, they are sealed.
But I find they are bloody reliable. And a spare if you need to carry one around Oz is cheap as chips.

A Honda Prelude mid to late 80's pump is about the same size at a SU cylindrical pump. You find it mounted under-body, forward of left rear wheel. It's got rubber mounts, bullet terminals so comes with all the bits you need, well I needed anyway.

Pierburg universal low pressure pumps work well and are very reliable

Even though the OP probably has most likely done what they have needed to, but for anyone else that happens across this thread, I am a definite +1 for the facet style pump. I use the Goss GE242 (3 - 4.5psi) on my tickled 1275 with an HIF44. About $80 from most popular auto joints.

I have a silver top pump and malpassi regulator, mounted the pump on subframe under the fuel tank and regulator in the engine bay near the wiper motor.
