Be careful getting UK stuff. The Australian seats may be different.

My pick would be the elastic straps like in my pics stretched nice and firm and a wire base with foam covering both back and base.

A motor trimmer will have everything needed. You shouldn't need to buy a kit. Give him the old straps and he will reuse the clips/hooks. He'll have elastic and foam already. Maybe just buy a wire base, or he can make a base with straps.

Yeah nah they have asked me to source the bits. This is hicksville up here mate. You cant get anything done unless you do it yourself. They were going to re-use the old shagged foam......

I hit up Newtons and said I can get the same bits from Minispares shipped for 37 pound. They suggested I use Minispares......

I don't understand why you would buy foam from the other side of the world when you could buy it from Clark Rubber in Cairns.

I'm not doing the work on the chairs. The upholster has asked me to chase the bits up. Maybe they are to lazy to make up the foam themselves? I don't know... The back section looks like a few bits glued together. I can't do that without having the chairs and I can't say if the upholster will be bothered? I don't know. I'm just doing what they asked me to.

It is very hard to get dimensions off the old foam. because they most likely have shrunk.
getting original one is a good idea.
They look too large to fit on the seat. but fill up the seat covers very snug.

I'd find another upholster, sounds like he doesn't want the job. Warning bells. :)

Well Im kind of over a barrel now... He has stripped the chairs and has all the bits sitting on the bench... Bit hard to take a whole pile of crap to another upholster and expect them to do the job....

I asked this mob if they were even interested in doing it before taking the seats in... Of course they said YES bring it in, no worries....

Ok sorry didn't realize everything was at the upholster.

Seriously though if a upholsterer started telling me to get my own basic materials such as foam and webbing which are materials any trimmer would normally have I would be collecting it all up and going elsewhere.

Or at least having a crack at doing the foam and springs yourself.

To redo in the way the Aussie seats were done all you need is
*two different thickness of foam
*foam glue
*elastic webbing for back
*either wire or rubber base

Again a reminder the austalian seats are not necessarily the same as English seats and where trimmed differently so foam and kits from UK may not fit the same.

Ive bought these from Minispares, Ive printed out a picture of what the rear section foam looks like, or what I think it should look like. So perhaps they can copy it. Now that the seat is stripped bare, I wish I did give it a go..

Ive got no doubt I most likely could have done something with it, but I dont want to use off the shelf seat trim covers. I cant sew.... and I want Black and Red... so would have needed someone to make these up. I guess I could have taken the chair into an upholster with the foams/springs etc all glued/clipped on ready to go. But not sure anyone would want to touch it as they may feel inclined they may need to cover my work down the track for warranty etc???

The front bit of foam can be glued on if you want, but I dont think it should be.

If that back spring thing is no good, Ill buy this one from Newtons and just the rear part.
