Hi all
i have just had a clubman body delivered to me, it is apparently a GT body
it does not come with compliance plates which is an issue, so for me i was hoping to use the body to re-shell my poor sad and badly repaired Clubman body
anyone know the legality of this or requirements?

also, has anyone made a body rotisserie or stand for these for easy of work and transportability?
as it will need to have some work done to the front right quarter, some sand blasting and repainting

You can repair/use it and get surrogate identification from Police. I'd get the number first before proceeding......for that guy.....Justin Case

Congrats on the purchase. Good to see it is going to be put back on the road. We were discussing the firewall stampings on this last week. Looks like the trainee made a few stuff ups with it. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=88935

Just use the numbers on the radiator cowl and redo it as a gt with interesting history

You can register a car with a missing compliance plate in Victoria. You just have to provide some sort of proof it has been registered in Australia before. I'm not sure how South Australia sees it though.

Don't go swapping the radiator shroud from one shell to another. That's rebirthing and could get you in a whole heap of trouble.

The new UK bodyshells are not sold here as they are not legal. If you rebuild your Mini into a new Heritage shell you are creating a "new" car in the eyes of Australian law. (There is potential to put a Heritage shell on a Vic Club Permit as a replica. However if you went that route I'm told the car can never be placed on full rego in Australia.)

If you can prove it was registered in Australia (it is an Oz shell, after all) there should be no problem with registration if the body numbers are legible.
There are plenty of registered Minis missing these plates, (for example in most of 1969 NO plates at all were fitted).
A compliance plate is NOT a VIN plate, it is just a list of the ADRs that were applicable when built.

Does anyone know if chassis numbers can be duplicated between each state or are they placed on a central database.
I know that rego numbers are duplicated.

I believe chassis numbers are on a central database.
I bought a s/h caravan in Katoomba once (had plates on but rego lapsed), and the RTA tried to tell me its chassis number was used on a box trailer (in Vic).

I recall back in 1997 when I rang a REVS check on my shell when I first bought it, they said it was a stolen Dog trailer for a semi.....!

i done the ring around,
the body was last registered in NSW in 1986, they said it is possible to register in SA once its road worthy, but they were talking about applying for a Modification plate to be stamped out and fitted once it is inspected, to display the date it was manufactured, body number and seating capacity.
so it does not seem hopeless but it does sound like a challenge.... like all projects

Wonder what it has been doing for the past 29 years. Looks to be in good condition.
Did you get the info from SA Transport ?

Date of manufacture is probably 12/1971. This one was for sale on Ebay and has a car number close to yours.
