Re the back foam, if you look at my pictures you can see the back foam simply follows the shape of the frame and is glued on. In Australia they then used a thinner strip that went around the edge and was glued on. The one from Newton it looks like they have it so it folds around the frame instead. On mine you can see a couple of extra pieces are on the webbing side to give a little bit of lumbar support. The factory added a piece of calico over the top that made it easier to slip the cover over.

Hope it all works out. They are a surprisingly comfy little seat when they are all redone.

Thank you very much for all your help. This would be a boring thread without your input mate.

Should be a bit less claustrophobic in there!

Ok I got my new parts and have fitted the rubber diaphragm and the new spring back. It fits a treat.

Regarding the foam I spoke to Clarke Rubber and they do sell Dunlop Rubber and will cut it to size. The newton website also mentions the thickess of the foam needed in parts too (2" I think). I'd ask the trimmer what foam density you need or call that mob I posted before in Sydney as they have a trimmer on staff.

You will see one of my diaphragms was not replaced as it was it perfect condition. It has the foam glued to the rubber.

Since you are in Sydney it might be worth trying "The Foam Booth" as they often have offcuts cheap and in general may be cheaper than Clark rubber. They also sell an excellent adhesive specific for foam which you will need as the foam gets glued to the seat frame and to itself.

They are in Surry Hills and Willoughby.

From memory I used the green coloured foam and actually squeezed in double thickness in the base to make it firmer.

Off to get foam this weekend hopefully. Hanra are you doing your rear seats too?

Apologies for the partial thread hijack. I will also start to pull down the rear seats and see what they are like and whether there is horse hair there. As you can see they are a different from the mk1. The look like a clubman rear. Anyone know if the clubman rear sear frame will work in a mk1?

My rear seat was re trimmed in 2000. No one has sat in it since. It's still in good nick.

Ok seat parts arrived. Got the rubber bottom diaphragm fitted. Wasn't sure what was top or bottom of the rubber? Which way around should it go? Seemed the way I have it fitted there is a small recess for the shaft of the clip to fit into, like a slot in the rubber. So it seems he most obvious way around?

Unfortunately one bloody spring is missing from the other rear squab...... Gaaaaaahhhhh. Minispares!!!!!

Looking good :) I think the rubber may go the other way. If you look at my pic the glue from the factory where the foam was glued was on the other side. That said I have no idea if it matters.

Yep I had a good look at your pics and noticed that also. It's just odd that the block of rubber at the ends of the pad have a groove moulded into them that the shaft of the clip fits neatly into?

Perhaps yes your right it goes the other way and the end of the clip once it curls around fits into that groove?

Have a look at the Newton fitting guide http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/documents/mini-mki-front-seat-fitting/mini-mk.i-front-seat-fitting.pdf

It's a fiddly job. I had to bend the clips a little bit in the vice so they would get on the rubber.
