Whats the trick to removing the pedals on a Clubman. It's loose but just won't come out.

Have you removed the clevis pin connecting them to the master cylinders?

Are you having trouble removing the large pin that the pedals pivot on? It happens when the pedals wear a groove in the pin. You may have to take the entire pedal box out. Sometimes the pin needs to be pressed out and the pedals re-bushed.

Sorry I can't remove the whole pedal box. I've undone all of the bolts and it's loose but I can't quite wriggle it out.

You haven't mentioned that you removed the clevis pins connecting the pedal. If they are still attached it will wriggle but not come out.

Have you disconnected everything? There's 2 nuts under the steering wheel, 2 bolts on the firewall and another 4 studs that also hold down the master cylinders. You've also got to remove the pins that connect the pedals to the master cylinders. After all that you still may have trouble getting the pedal box out, I found that the easiest thing to do was to press both down pedals and then pull the pedal box out. I had a huge hassle with the pins until I bought some long reach pliers and I had them out in seconds.

If you're having trouble pulling the pivot shaft out, you may want to pull the pedal box out and stick one of the pedals in a vice. After that take off the nut on the pivot pin and get the pin to rotate. (I had a go with the impact wrench and then a breaker bar.) once the shaft is spinning punch it out and you're done!

Hey civicman, can I just ask a few questions for clarification?

I assume when you talk about the pivot shaft, you mean the shaft that both the clutch and brake pedals pivot on? I have removed my pedal box (some years ago) and the clutch pivots okay but the brake is very stiff to move. I feel like I need to get that pivot out to clean it all up and free it all up.

How have you managed to get the pivot pin to rotate? Keep the nut on? Use vice grips? It seems so damn stuck!

Spray pin with WD40 then heat the pedal with a hot air gun...

DrMini- 1970 wasaMatic 1360, Mk1S crank, 86.6HP (ATW) =~125 @ crank, 45 Dellorto (38 chokes), RE282 sprint cam, 1.5 rockers, 11.0:1 C/R.

The car is a bare shell, the last thing to be removed is the pedal box. The master cylinders are removed and the nuts and bolts are removed holding the pedal box to the car. The pivot shaft is still in place as I want to be able to work on the pedal box on the bench. Looks like pressing the pedals down and keep wriggling is the way to go.
