Hi, previously my solenoid was located up next to the engine steady, however i have put a new mk2 cooper wiring harness in my van and the wiring for the solenoid drops down between the alternator and starter. Just after some photos of where i mounts to thanks

It was never mounted there on Oz cars. That wiring doesn't look right.
Early cars had it on the clutch housing, later ones had it on the steady bar bracket like you had before.
Where did you buy the harness from?

The normal mounting position for the solenoid is above the bendix gear end of the starter motor, on a bracket which is fixed to the flywheel housing at the point where there are two tapped holes.

Cheers

It looks to me like you have the harness too far around the front of the engine. Try pulling it back along the inside front guard.

Does this help?
There is a triangular bracket which mounts to the clutch housing

Don't suppose it could be for the Rover style solinoid. Just a thought.
