I've found the motivation to get one with getting things done on my mini again. Though I'm at a dilemma with a lightweight bootlid I've got l don't know what the best way is to install a seal/rubber.

Does anyone have any suggestions, I'm not keen on drilling holes in it for the clips etc but if l have to l will.

Is it a rover bootlid?

Is there a self adhesive rubber which would be suitable?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Fit a seal around the boot opening and not to the boot lid, like a door seal.

Very good idea, any idea on a suitable seal?

Either use a modern Rover seal around the body edge type... or just glue the Oz style one onto the lid itself.

Cheers, Ian

Yep, that's the sort of thing. See if you can get a short sample and then try it out.

Hopefully the boot will close no matter where you fit the sample to the body.

Test the seal is sealing by closing a sheet of paper between the boot lid and the seal and then pull the paper to test how much grip the seal has.

The newer Rover boot seal (CKE10018) that is fitted to the body not the bootlid is available from Karcraft (and probably other mini parts suppliers)

I think a Rover seal on body would suit your lid best.
But if you decide to glue the original style sponge seal to the bootlid, Selleys KwikGrip contact cement works fine. I used the gel one, it's less runny.
Watch out for the sponge though, many aftermarket ones are very hard.
I used one from Minisport after buying and trying 2 others.
Here's what to look for- scroll down to the comparison pic.

John Smidt or Karcraft would have similar soft ones now I think.

Ha nice try Chux, l ended up purchasing a rover seal, unfortunately it fouls and prevents me closing the boot, l will try Clark rubber tomorrow.

I used silastic to bond the original rubber to the boot lid of an 850 in 1996 and it was still perfect in 2012 when I sold the car, if you do it this way it will look factory and not leak.
The original clips are fiddle and a can cause rust.
